Being invited to a christening is an honor that’s normally bestowed on family and close friends. So if you’ve been invited to witness a christening ceremony, it’s a sign of the affection the parents of the child have for you and the esteem you have in their eyes.

While you’re not absolutely obliged to bring a gift, it looks pretty tacky if you don’t.

• Apart from the above a personalized christening gift basket is a terrific christening present. You can customize the shape and style of your basket and all the goodies that will go in it. Some great choices are body oils and lotions for mommy and baby, soft toys, a pewter mug with the date and name engraved and other items that will add a personalized touch to the christening gift.

Christening gifts aren’t absolutely essential if you’ve already given the parents one gift for the shower or when you went to visit them after the baby was born. But it’s still quite tacky to attend a christening empty handed.
